The USCC Museum in Gettysburg is the first in the country to tell the story of faith and courage during the civil war, and the heroic story of the U.S. Christian Commission. We opened in 2005 in the Patriot Point Store on Steinwehr Avenue and then moved into the historic home (c. 1820) and birthplace of Jennie Wade on Baltimore Street. Over the last four years we have told the story of the USCC to thousands of individuals, families and tour groups.
We are proud to announce an exciting step for the U.S. Christian Commission and Gettysburg. The U.S. Christian Commission Museum is moving to an expanded facility on Chambersburg Street. This location will provide over three times the space, better visibility and the opportunity to serve more people with the story of the U.S.C.C.
Group tour programs are still in full swing during this transition period. Groups are hosted in the 1822 Methodist Church building currently known as the GAR Hall. This location is itself a treasure and is the oldest standing church building in Gettysburg and also served as a civil war hospital after the battle. The U.S. Christian Commission also has programs available in the USCC Log Chapel or on location at your hotel or restaurant during your Gettysburg stay.
JUNE 11, 2010 Museum Update!
The construction process is taking longer than expected to renovate the new museum space. At this time the NEW USCC Museum is still under construction. Group tours are still in full swing during this phase at other historic locations. Call for details or to schedule a group tour for 2010 or 2011! Please be sure to visit the Chapel when you are in Gettysburg.
